Boom Meaning Behind Acronym

If you have watched even just one of our videos, you know I love the word BOOM, and I say it before starting every food challenge. I always enjoy hearing about people and their children repeating it before beginning their meals as well!! What you may not know is that BOOM is an acronym that serves as the foundation of all my thoughts and actions. While my motto is “Win Before You Begin,” BOOM is my core principle that guides almost all my decisions, both conscious and subconscious. Everything I do, each challenge I attempt, and everywhere I go has a purpose that contributes to one or more of the four pillars. You may have noticed by now that I am wearing a ring on my right hand again. I wore one on the same finger from October 2013 to summer 2016 when I lost it one night in Glasgow, Scotland. It was engraved with the phrase, “Married to my Dreams,” as explained at the end of my 2015 Munchies documentary.

My new ring still has “Married to my Dreams” engraved, but only on the inside. The exterior is engraved with BOOM, and I look at it hundreds of times each day. The four pillars have been inspired by many people such as entrepreneurs Dr. Eric Thomas, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Grant Cardone, along with many others who have helped me reach this point. I am very appreciative of all their priceless wisdom. Whenever you hear me say BOOM, what it really stands for is Benevolence, Omnipresence, Omnipotence, and Maximum Effort. Here are explanations:

Benevolence well meaning; kindness – I care a lot about people, especially every member of the community (in-person and online) my team has been building since I got started back in 2010. Even “trolls” and “haters” receive my full respect, no matter the quality of their comments. I keep everything positive and am always well-intentioned with everything I do. I try my best to be kind to all people, no matter what, and I constantly work to get better at that. I will always be people-centered, and that’s a reason I’m becoming a Registered Dietitian.

Omnipresence the state of being widespread or constantly encountered – One of my overarching goals is to become the #1 Nutrition Educator in the world. I have food challenge wins in all 50 states and 32 countries, and before I am all done I’ll have wins in over 50 countries. We post 3-4 videos each week, and it is not uncommon for each video to take place in a different state or country. I will travel all over the world for most of my future to accomplish my goals, long after I retire from professional eating. Eventually I will reach everyone everywhere!!

Omnipotence the quality of having unlimited or very great power – My team has reached this point because I’ve always believed (or at least for the past few years) I can do and am willing to do anything necessary to achieve goals. I rarely hesitate when I know a good opportunity has been presented. Similar to, “You cannot control the wind but you can adjust your sails,” I know only I have the power to control my outcomes. While I’ve been on this journey for over 9 years now, improving each day, I am still just preparing for when I reach the starting line (when I become an RDN). The road ahead is an uphill climb, but we will accomplish everything we set out to do.

Maximum Effort – My goal while working in the construction industry was to achieve maximum output from minimum input, which is basically the definition of efficiency. The reason was because I wanted to maximize my efforts spent on everything I actually cared about (what I’m doing now). I will be the first to say I’m a terrible “employee,” as evidenced by getting seven W2’s and 1099’s one year. Thanks to support from all of you, I am fortunate now to only work on things I am passionate about (I retired from construction on 10/26/2013). I’m always 100% maximum effort whenever possible, all-in or nothing, which maximizes my chances of success.

BOOM is very intense and not meant for everyone, but I wanted to share it with you all because everything I do has a reason, and I don’t just do all this for free meals and sweet t-shirts (lol). Plus, I know many of you love using Win Before You Begin, and I love hearing stories about how the motto has helped people and those around them. Maybe just one of the pillars can inspire some thoughts to help you reach your goals, and if that happens then I have accomplished my goal. I’ll publish more blog-type posts in the future, and feel free to comment on what you would like me to write about. If you are interested in getting your own BOOM shirt, click this link!!
